Sheila Nykwist Meet Sheila

20140612 Sheila Nykwist 10Sheila Nykwist has many passions in life all of which include three elements: discovery, perseverance and challenge. She has experienced solo backpacking through South East Asia, teaching English in Japan, Taiwan and Spain, running her first 80 km ultra-marathon through the trails in Fernie, BC and setting her sights on the Ironman and ultra stage races in exotic places.

Her passion for exploration explains her pursuit of a career in journalism. With a Bachelor of Journalism from Ryerson University she began her new adventure as a reporter in Thompson, Manitoba. Scientists, tree planters, Aboriginal leaders and mine experts…so many interesting people, so many stories to tell.

From newspaper reporter to ShawTV Host, Sheila took on the challenge of on-air presentation with gusto. Through interviewing local politicians, business owners and non-profit leaders, Sheila developed her skill of mining essential information and messaging while allowing guests to comfortably express their personality and connect with viewers.

And that’s not all. Sheila is an experienced parade announcer, telethon host, panel moderator and MC. It’s not all about on-air presentation though. Sheila also has experience shooting and editing video, floor directing, live sound production and graphic generation, creating news show line-ups and programming along with producing a number of documentaries, one of which aired at the Toronto International Deaf Film Festival.

Sheila is Vice President of the Calgary Professional Videographer’s Association.

Sheila looks forward to discovering what your story is; taking on the challenge of creating a video message that resonates with viewers and persevering until your goals are met.
